About SIPS

Who We Are

SIPS stands for Spanish in Professional Settings — a student organization at the University of South Carolina built around one simple idea: everyone deserves a chance to learn.

Our Mission
“Our mission is to create an inclusive, judgment-free environment where students of all levels can engage with the Spanish language. Through exposure and practical application, we aim to promote educational growth and prepare students to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking individuals in professional settings.”

What we do

SIPS creates opportunities for meaningful engagement with professional Spanish — through panels, community, and accessible resources.

Professional Exposure

We host panels and events featuring professionals who use Spanish daily in their careers — from medicine and law to business and education.

Inclusive Community

There are no prerequisites. Whether you took one semester of Spanish or grew up speaking it at home, you are welcome here without judgment.

Educational Growth

Through real-world context, students reinforce and expand their Spanish skills in ways a classroom alone cannot always provide.

Career Readiness

We help students understand how bilingualism can set them apart in competitive fields like pre-med, pre-law, pre-dental, and business.

Open to All

Any student. Any level. Any major.

SIPS is not a selective organization. There are no applications, auditions, or minimum proficiency requirements. If you are a USC student with any interest in Spanish — whether personal, academic, or professional — you belong here.

We especially welcome students in pre-professional tracks like pre-med, pre-dental, pre-law, and business, though the club is valuable for any field where you may one day communicate with Spanish-speaking individuals.
